This is truly great news for our entire community, and it was great seeing this featured on the Traverse City Record Eagle’s website this weekend. “Gwen’s” has been a local landmark for eons, an important draw for tourists from near and far, and an employer of many good people.
I’d venture that if Gwen Frostic’s is likely the destination most frequently asked about by direction seekers. In high school, I worked at Stapleton’s Corner Store, and fielded this question dozens of times. My office is right near the US 31/M115 corner, next to the Benzie County Chamber of Commerce, and we often get people stopping in looking for directions as well.
The distinctive look of Gwen’s crafts make it easily recognizable, and the nature theme is beloved my people near and far. When I explain where I’m from, there are three responses that most often trigger recognition- Crystal Lake, The Cherry Hut, and Gwen Frostic's.
Kudos to Kim and Greg Forshee and everyone else that had a hand in getting this great community asset reopened!
